Liu Chao-Han (; born 3 January 1939) is a Taiwanese physicist and educator who served as President of National Central University from June 1990 to February 2003. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a Fellow of the Academia Sinica and the National Academy of Engineering. ==Biography== Liu was born in Hengyang, Hunan, on January 3, 1939, to Liu Guoyun (), a Shangjiang in the Republic of China Armed Forces, and Zhong Wanfang (). He has five brothers, Liu Chaoning (), Liu Chaohua (), Liu Chaoli (), Liu Chao-shiuan, and Liu Chaokai (). He received his bachelor's degree in Electrical engineering from National Taiwan University and earned his Doctor's degree in Electrical engineering from Brown University. He joined the faculty of the University of Illinois system in 1966 and was promoted to professor in 1993. In 1981, he was elected a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was President of National Central University in 1990, and held that office until 2003. After that office was terminated, he became President of University System of Taiwan, serving until 2006. He was the board chairman of the Chinese Geoscience Union from 1994 to 1996. In 1998, he was elected a Fellow of the Academia Sinica. In 2006 he was promoted to become the Vice-President of Academia Sinica, a position he held until 2011.
